Replacing a central air conditioner is rarely an impulse purchase - it's a planned decision driven by a handful of clear signals. Packaged Units

Right-Sizing Your Air Conditioner

The single most common installation mistake is oversizing. A tons-per-square-foot rule of thumb gives a starting point, but it ignores insulation, window orientation, ceiling height, infiltration, and Illinois's actual heat-gain profile. An oversized AC cools too fast, doesn't dehumidify properly (because it shuts off before it can pull moisture out), and short-cycles itself into an early grave. An undersized AC runs constantly without keeping up.

That means we measure your home, document insulation and window data, factor in the local climate, and arrive at a BTU number that matches the actual heat load - not a guess from the truck. Our AC Installation Process

Every install follows the same six-step process. We've refined it over 20+ years so there are no surprises and no shortcuts:

1. Free in-home assessment. A technician visits, measures the house, documents existing ductwork and electrical, and asks about your comfort priorities.
2. Manual J load calculation & written quote. We compute the actual cooling load and give you a written, itemized quote with multiple equipment options (good / better / best).
3. Removal of old equipment. The old condenser, line set, and evaporator coil come out, and we recover refrigerant according to EPA regulations.
4. New system install & line-set. New condenser pad, new line set (we don't reuse old copper), new evaporator coil on the furnace, electrical disconnect, and condensate management.
5. Startup, vacuum & refrigerant charge. We pull a deep vacuum on the system to remove moisture and non-condensables, weigh in the manufacturer-spec refrigerant charge, and verify pressures.
6. Walkthrough & cleanup. We walk you through the new system, register the warranty, leave you the paperwork, and clean up the work area before we leave.

AC Installation Cost in Illinois

There's no single price for a central AC install - the number depends on equipment, complexity, and what condition your existing infrastructure is in. The major cost drivers are:

• System size (tonnage). Larger homes need larger systems. A 2-ton unit costs less than a 5-ton.
• Efficiency rating (SEER2). A 14-SEER2 baseline unit costs less than a 20-SEER2 variable-capacity model, but the higher-efficiency model recoups its premium through lower energy bills.
• Brand and warranty tier. Different brands and equipment tiers carry different price points.
• Ductwork condition. If your existing ducts need repair, sealing, or replacement, that adds to the install cost.
• Electrical upgrades. Older homes sometimes need a panel upgrade or a dedicated AC disconnect installed.
• Permits. Municipal permits and inspections are required and vary by city.
